Anthony DeStefano encourages faith in children *book review*

March 5, 2010 Reviews, Uncategorized

I love children’s books – we read a book every night before bed.  ”This Little Prayer of Mine” is a perfect before bed book, with its melodic rhythm and soothing message.

Written from the perspective of a child the book touches on every single aspect of a child’s day and records a different prayer for everything the child feels or experiences.  The heart of the message is that a child can pray to God for help, ask for a friend, learn how to act the best and especially how to be thankful for all the blessings we have.

Every page also opens up opportunities to talk about different subjects with your child.  One one page, for example, there is a little boy that feels left out because none of the kids want to play with him.  He is praying to God to help him know that even when he feels lonely God is there with him.  What a message to tell our children!

The book ends with the girl being tucked in by her mom and dad – a great way to end and encourage my daughter to go to sleep as well!

The illustrations are gorgeous and even captivated my 10.5 month old son.  And with Lizzie the pictures are so detailed and full of emotion that we can discuss what is going on in the picture and how each person is feeling about it.

The amount of words on each page was a bonus too.   It kept my baby boy’s attention as it didn’t take me long to read it and turn the page.

All in all, I highly recommend this book to any parent of a child – really of any age.  It makes a fantastic before bed book but also just anytime during the day as it opens up so much discussion.

This book was endorsed by the National Day of Prayer.  The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 6, 2010 and this book is a wonderful teaching tool to help your child understand what this day is all about and more importantly why prayer is so vital.

About the Author: Anthony DeStefano is the acclaimed author of “A Travel Guide to Heaven,” and “Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes To.”  He has a background in business and media as well as a degree in Philosophy/Theology.  He is currently a successful businessman and runs 3 companies in New York.  He is also an avid pilot and flies his own vintage, 1959 Cessna L19-E Bird-Dog.

Later this year DeStefano is releasing his second children’s book “Little Star” and a gift book for adults called “I Just Can’t Take it Anymore!” 2011 is promising for him with the soon to be release of his third adult non-fiction book “The Invisible World.”  You can read more information about him on his website.

Here is a cute little video with clips of me reading it to my children one night before bed. You can see for yourself how well my children love it and the conversations that it creates between parent and child.

I received a copy of this book for my review. All opinions are 100% mine.

That rss feature on your website here is splendid, you should tell more folks about it in your next post. I haven’t noticed it a first, now I’m using it every morning to check on any updates. I’m on a real slow dial-up link in Ohio and it’s quite baffling to sit there and wait for such a long time ’til the page loads… but hey, I just found your rss page and added it to the Google Reader and voil? – I’m always up-to-date! Well pal, keep up the good work and make that rss button a little bigger so that other people can enjoy that as well :-P
