I am not going to say anything that hasn’t already been said – so let me point you in the direction of some of my favorite resources written by some very successful mom bloggers.
Before I get to that, let me give you my two cents:
Being a review and giveaway blogger is work. I spend at least 3 hours a day minimum on my blog. It has been known that the more you post the more traffic you get – so if you are struggling with posting at least once a day, maybe you should keep blogging as a fun hobby. Companies and mom bloggers work together to promote items, it is advertising for the company. I do not review an item I don’t believe in, even if the item (or money) is desirable. Furthermore, companies want to know that their items will be given plenty of exposure, so higher traffic speaks volumes for them.
What does a good review/giveaway take? First, high quality photos, perhaps video, and online promotion. The promotion is the time consuming part. To give companies the exposure I think they deserve I list my giveaway on plenty of linkys and giveaway sites. I can spend an hour publicizing just one giveaway. I also edit my photos and videos and try to perfect the look and feel of my post – this part can take up to 3 hours alone. So 4-6 hours a day on one item, you can see why I earn the items I review. Not all items take this much work but some really do. (My daddy diaper event sure did)
So, after reading all this and you are thinking “I can do this! I have the time, the dedication and desire – how do I get started?”
- Riding With Jessica has a really great post about how to get started – complete with a list of sites that help bloggers and companies connect!
- Jolly Mom has a great series called “Review Blogging 101” and her article “How to contact companies for product reviews” is excellent!
- Blessings Abound Mommy has a great article about how to write a good pitch letter.
One other tip I have: Get involved online. Find a forum or group of bloggers that can help your blog grow. It is called Social networking for a reason – blogging is all about friendships made and sharing our ideas with each other.
This is just a short little article that I hope helps you. Jolly Mom’s Review Blogging 101 is far superior to anything I have time to write so check her out.
But are there more questions you have? I’ll totally take whatever you have in the comments and answer them in a follow up post – so ask away!
