Baby Bubs is Growing Up!

May 6, 2010 Family

David will be 13 months old on Tuesday. All the new things he is doing astound me! He is right on target for his own accomplishment timeline. That means he is behind where Lizzie was at this age on some things but also ahead of her in others!  But for David’s own rate he is right on target!

Walking – he has not taken his first steps yet.  He still does that silly scoot thing where he sits on his tushie and propels himself forward with his right leg!  Just tonight though he was in the middle of the floor and stood up to stand all by himself, without holding onto anything. His laughter caught my attention and there he was, standing up! He did this like a dozen times, just standing up and falling back down.  Walking is really not far off. Lizzie was walking at 11 months old, so David is behind her but not by much!

Food – he feeds himself with a fork or spoon. I have tried to feed him and he will shake his head no until I give him the utensil.  Eventually he will let me help him guide his hand to his mouth. He has figured out straws and sippy cups too.  This is such a big help, now I don’t have to hold the cup for him.

Talking – this is where he is ahead of where Lizzie was at his age.  He mimics the words I say and it is so cute to hear!  His words are growing as he practices every day with them. He can say:

  • Da da
  • Ma ma
  • Baaaa (goats)
  • Bu bu (bye bye) and waves!
  • ssssiii (sisie, sister)
  • Da Dah (Lay Down)
  • Ma (more)

He also tries to mimic sounds he hears like the dogs barking outside.

As you can tell from the photo he just loves to play with balls!  Lizzie found the toy football he got for Christmas and he laughed so much as we played catch.  He scooted lightning speed to get the ball when it rolled away from him.  His other favorite games are peek a boo and playing in the dirt.  That’s my  boy!

Nursing-still going strong!  I have learned that if I sit on the couch with him on my lap he immediately has an almost Pavolvian reaction and grabs at my shirt. So I have stayed off the couch and gotten on the floor more with him.  He still nurses to sleep for naps and at night and a few times in the early morning.  When he feels sick though he will nurse more as it is a comfort for him.

One more accomplishment that Lizzie still can’t figure out — blowing his nose!  This shocked me!  He has been dealing with a cold lately and I’ve just wiped his nose for him. The other day he grabbed for a tissue and I gave it to him and held it to his nose. He blew his snot out!  It wasn’t an isolated incident either. Every time I hold a tissue to his nose he blows from his nose.  This amazes me. Lizzie still blows out her mouth.

He is so big. I really can’t wait for him to walk cause carrying him is getting cumbersome. He is about 25 solid pounds!

Soon I will update you on his big sister Lizzie! She is so funny too.
