I admit, I was worried when I booked my flight for 7pm on Sunday night, that I would be bored all day alone on Sunday. Turn out, I had the most amazing time with a genuine and sweet blogger – Christine from Dates to Diapers. I look forward to our friendship continuing to bloom after this, we have so much in common.
She put her baby in her Mei Tai, I took Lucy in my Ergo, and we took off for downtown Asheville. It was so much fun! Here is a photo she took with her iPhone and instagrammed. Then she used another app to find a highly rated place to get something sweet to eat. We found French Broad Chocolate Lounge. We relaxed on a comfy sofa eating cake and chatted about kids and homeschooling and life in general.
Then Felecia from Go Graham Go and her husband gave me a ride to the airport. We had so much fun talking about small towns, southern thoughts and the most beautiful Lowes in the nation.
Once at the airport, I was pleasantly surprised to share wait time with Valarie from Charmed Valarie. She blogs about beauty and fashion and she is every bit as beautiful in person as she is in her blog photos. She was on my flight, then was able to get an “earlier” flight to Atlanta. This is where the drama begins.
Our flights were supposed to leave at 7pm, both were connecting flights from Asheville to Atlanta. Atlanta was experiencing severe storms so they were not accepting flights. Finally, at 8:30 – after we chatted over a meal in the airport cafe – both our flights boarded and left.
My flight landed in Atlanta at 9:30pm. A sweet lady I flew with said there was an earlier flight in concourse A I could try and get on. Our flight landed in concourse D. For those that do not know Atlanta airport – it is butt-kicking exhausting to walk that far! Why I didn’t take the train is beyond me. Anyways, she got on the flight because she is a silver member. They like her money. I’m nicki normal person and the flight was “full.” So I hoofed it with Lucy back to Concourse B where my flight was scheduled to leave at 11:30pm. This flight was originally supposed to leave at 10pm, getting me home at 11pm and asleep in my bed by 1am.
Are you ready for this?
They had two flights scheduled to leave the same exact gate. We didn’t know until 11:30pm that our flight was moved to 4 gates down. Thankfully, same concourse. Then, we waited in line until midnight, and boarded at 12:15am. We finally pulled out of the airport around 12:3oam!
Yes, we landed in Kansas City around 1:45am. I was given the choice to stay the night with my sister in law and get up early the next day or just push myself and get home. I wanted to be home! I missed my bed, my kids!
I drove home from 2am-4:30am. I sang every ridiculous song I could think of. I read every sign and kept saying “Good bye exit 367! Won’t see you again for some time, I am going home!” You know you are driving late when you pass big rigs who are pulled over and sleeping.
I made it home safe! I took Lucy to bed and just crashed. I woke up the next morning to Lizzie jumping on me: “Mommy! You are back from the aer-o-port! Hooray! Lucy was on the airplane, mommy. Now she is home.” And then David repeating everything Lizzie said. “Aya – pote, mommy. Sissy home!”
Today I am kinda a zombie. Thank goodness I don’t have any plans today, I’m takin’ it easy.
