Potty talk – Surviving with one bathroom

FacebookTwitterPinterestGoogle+StumbleUponReddit

How are we doing it? Um yeah….it is tough. I dream of Josh adding on a 2nd bathroom. Really, I would revel in having my own private master bathroom, but I will be totally happy to just have another bathroom!

I am not complaining, just chatting up. So far it has not been much of an issue. The kids bathe together still and Josh showers before I wake up. But someday Lizzie will want a lot more privacy. Someday, there will be a line waiting for the bathroom.

So here I go, dreaming, since I know that someday I will have to build another bathroom on to save my sanity. Two teen girls will not be easy with just one bathroom.

Here is a picture of our one and only bathroom. Pretty cute and cozy don’t you think?

Josh built our double sink vanity himself. It is made out of rustic hickory with a natural stain. I love the split level sinks, big drawers, and all my storage! For a small bathroom it sure works wonderfully for us.

He doesn’t need any help with designs – Josh comes up with some fabulous ideas on his own. But I cannot, so I browse Modern Bathroom’s site for designer bathroom vanities to come up with ideas for my future 2nd bathroom.  I know for sure our next bathroom will have only a shower and toilet, nothing too fancy. I don’t think I will ever have a master bathroom suite, since we are adding onto the back of our house – no where near my bedroom.

Bathrooms are so fun to design too! My current one is all browns and blues and I really love it! I think the brown shower curtain and towels pairs nicely with the dual-tone bathroom cabinets. In our next bathroom I think I will use the same hickory look, but let Lizzie and David help me design it. By the time Josh finishes it they will be old enough!

How many bathrooms do you have?

Every house has been different for me, but that’s one of my must haves when I buy so I’ve always had a minimum of 2 full baths. One of our homes had 2.5 baths, but most have had 2, which is what I have now. I hope you get that second bath before too long!

We custom built this home, and we really should have thought more about the whole “only one bathrooom” situation. DOH!

We have 2.5 baths and it wasn’t until maybe 2 years ago though (when my kids were 10 & 7) that they started using their own bathroom. It is a huge help now though because mornings before school would be a nightmare if they didn’t have their own bathroom!

Wow Josh sure is handy! That bathroom is beautiful!

Thank you Katie! It sure helps that he owns a cabinet shop….so he builds bathroom vanities for a living :)

I hope Josh gets the addition finished so my kids can have their own bathroom before they get to gradeschool. Like you said, mornings before school is NUTS!

Your bathroom is beautiful! If your hubby could write a how-to book for my hubby I would really appreciate it! lol
I am kind of a bathroom snob so I had to have 2 bathrooms. One for the kids and one in our bedroom. I thought that would keep mine kid free but they are always wanting to take a bath in the spa tub.

Thank you so much Jessica! My husband is a cabinet designer/builder. He owns a custom cabinet shop – so this is what he does. And yes, he is super amazing at it!

Someday, in the far far future, we will build a huge house. I will get my master bathroom suite!
