When I was a kid, I remember traveling about an hour away to see my grandparents over the holidays. I was blessed and most of my family lived within 1-2 hours of me and we didn’t do a whole lot of car trips.

But then after I got married, things got complicated. Josh’s family lived 2 hrs north, my grandfather lived 4 hours south and my mom and dad lived 35 minutes away. Before I had Lizzie, I remember doing five family Christmas gatherings. It was so fun, and so much travel. Yay for divorced parents and divorced grandparents, but I am so blessed that they all lived within driving distance!

My kids all have their grandparents – both sets – within driving distance. We will not be traveling very far this year at all. I cannot begin to express how thankful I am for that. I tried a roadtrip with the small kids. Didn’t go well for anyone.

What about you? Are you traveling anywhere over the holidays? How many different family gatherings will you attend?

Don’t know whether to say “oh that is wonderful that you get to stay home” or “that is too bad” it could be either one. How do you feel about not traveling? Is it good?

I am fine about not traveling this time of the year. I am just spending time with my family.

Even though each of us lives in a different place we gather for X-mas in my parents’ house – its a lot of hussle but I just cant imagine spending holidays away from this place. Its around 1 hour away from where I live – so the journey is not so much of a challenge. My little ones love the car trips though…just a nice music in the background and they fall asleep after 5 minutes :) Your kids dont tolerate car driving I assume?

My kids have a 2 hr limit. If they are in the car for more than 2.5 hours, they start to get crazy loud and whiny. We’ve tried DVDs, songs, games, books, food, you name it! All that works is spliting the trip into 2.5 hour portions and stopping, playing, getting back in. that effectively doubles our travel time LOL
