Chemicals.  The USA Federal government does not require pre-market safety testing of the more than 80,000 chemicals that are available on the market today.  The scariest part is that cancer is now the leading cause of child-related death in the US.

This is why I am not shocked that there is a huge push in our society to demand completely natural products and food! We want to know what we are using to clean with, and rest assured that it is not harmful to us or our earth.

Seventh Generation is a brand I fully love and support.  There are few other brands that I have worked with as frequently as Seventh Generation.  (Here is a complete list of other posts I’ve written about them).  I love how hard they work to care for the safety of children and others. Their products are naturally derived and safe and don’t harm the earth after they are used.

They paired up with Healthy Child Healthy World recently to present some tips to help families stay healthy:

  1. Take off your shoes at the door – Just think of all the dirt, chemicals, lead, and harmful stuff that everyone tracks in.  Taking shoes off makes it so you don’t have to vacuum and mop 24/7 to keep those germs away!
  2. Buy safer body care – Protect your family’s health by avoiding products with ingredients like parabens, synthetic fragrances & triclosan.  Seventh Generation makes delicious smelling body washes, hand soaps, etc – and none of them have those harmful ingredients.  For a list of most-toxic offenders, download the free eBook, “Easy Steps to a Healthy & Safe Nursery.”
  3.  Open a window – did you know indoor air is often worse for you than outdoor air? Open those windows and let the sun shine in!
  4. Eat more whole foods – I am guilty of this one!  Those ready-made meals sure make cooking for my kids a snap, but the artificial ingredients do more harm than good.  That being said, there are some foods that are delicious, nutritious, and require no prep – like the amazing selection of Stoneyfield Organic yogurts.  They have a line of kids’ yogurts my children love.

What are some ways you are living naturally to help your family stay healthy and safe?

I am working with “The Motherhood” and Seventh Generation to give one lucky reader a Seventh Generation baby gift basket!  This will include one package of diapers, one package of wipes, some facial wipes, and soap.

You can have two entries to this giveaway total:

1. Comment with how you keep your family safe and healthy!

2. Comment with your thoughts on Seventh Generation.

That is it! Two comments per person.  This giveaway ends in one short week – Friday, July 5th at 11:59pm CST. Open to USA only. I will email the winner and the winner will have 48 hrs to respond before I pick another winner.

Good luck!

I like seventh generation products because they don’t have the chemical or over perfumed smell of most cleaners.

  2. susan says

    1. To keep my family healthy we start every morning with fresh fruit and with lynch I offer a few different vegetables as options to go with the meal.

  3. Jenny W says

I keep my family healthy by trying to use glass over plastic, eating certain things organic, and making home-cooked meals almost always.

  4. Jenny W says

I love seventh generation’s products! I’ve used their diapers, wipes, cleaning products, and dish soap. It’s great using products that I know are a better alternative for my family.

  5. Elizabeth K. says

The only Seventh Generation product I’ve used so far is the wipes. I LOVE them because they don’t sting on sore bums!

  6. Elizabeth K. says

To keep my family healthy and safe I do most of my cleaning with vinegar and e-cloths (similar to Norwex). I’m also a label reader and try to stay away from the chemicals in foods that I know are bad.

  7. latanya says

I love that they offer a variety of products that are safe to use on your child as well as in your home

  8. Christine says

    1. I work at keeping our kids healthy by cooking mostly whole foods, from scratch. I’ve recently begun changing my flour from white to wheat, and now that I’ve switched I can’t understand why I didn’t do it earlier. I made everybody eat kale a few years ago, but not wheat bread!

  9. Christine says

    2. I like products, especially ones like diapers, that do less damage to our planet. It seems absurd to me that something used for such a short period of time can create waste that won’t biodegrade for at least 100 years. And that doesn’t include the damage done by preparing the diapers in the first place! Any effort to be more eco-friendly is a positive step, in my opinion.

  10. says

We take off our shoes at the door, we generally use cloth diapers, wipes, towels instead of paper towels, etc. for a safer environment.

  11. says

I’ve heard of them, but never used their products. I try not to form too much of an opinion until I try something for myself!

  12. Anne Lehnick says

I keep my family safe by buying natural cleaning products and using natural sunscreen on everyone

  13. Anne Lehnick says

I’ve used Seventh Generation products since my first child was born. Your perspective changes when your choices impact a little baby. Everything goes into their mouth, they’re crawling around on your floors, and you have to make sure you aren’t doing anything that will negatively impact their future health. I changed my cleaning product choices and eventually my diapering choices. I actually cloth diapered my daughter for the first 2 years, but now we are using Seventh Generation disposables as we prepare for potty training.

  14. says

We have been making a lot of changes in our home this year – switching to cloth diapers, trying to eat local and raw foods….and more. It’s a process for sure!

  15. Jessie C. says

I keep your family safe and healthy by purchasing natural and organic food/products. We have our own small organic garden as well.

I really love to make as much as my food from scratch, as possible. Right now, being in my 1st trimester, I’ve slacked a little. But this is one thing a so to keep my family healthy and safe!
