When I worked as a secretary at a real estate office, the busiest time of year to move properties was late spring/early summer. Not only due to the weather, but the schedule of local students.
This post is brought to you by Redfin, a national real estate brokerage. All opinions are my own. Enjoy these stories and please share your own below!
Here we are in December. Every single blessed thing is a mad-dash of rushing. And when you finally stop and try to buy and sell a house, you end up like this:
That feeling when you make a successful contract?
What can really help move things along during the holidays is hiring the best real estate agent. The cool thing about Redfin is they have full-service real estate agents, as well as a well-loved site and app. They pay their agents salaries and health benefits (instead of a commission) and give them a customer service bonus based on their client’s satisfaction.
As stressful as you think buying/selling during the holidays is, it really isn’t all that bad. Jill Krause from Baby Rabies put a beautiful and optimistic spin on it. She just bought a house and is currently unpacking.
Instead of being stressed out and not decorating, she said this is actually a fantastic time to move.
“I imagine we’ll decorate just as much as we have in the past simply because we haven’t had time to put the Christmas decorations in the attic from our move. So we’ll simply unpack them and put them up. What’s probably not going to happen, though, are all the plans I had to make new decorations, replace old ones, and make rooms look cohesive.”
I love this. And I love her attitude about saying goodbye to a house she made a home.
Remember when we bought our first house and thought we’d never love it? But we dated it every weekend for 6 years, and treated it to new paint and pretty floors. And it gifted us a light-filled space and it kept our babies warm and safe. Until we had to say goodbye, and we left pieces of our hearts inside of it. And we took it’s love with us. And we were so thankful for this place we grew to love. #ALoveStory #LoveTheHomeYoureWith #SliceOfPerfect
Redfin agent Paul Stone shared that “there are plenty of people who need to buy a home in the winter, whether it’s because of a job relocation or major family change, like a new baby. These buyers want to get into a home quickly, but we make sure that we help them get the *right* home, too.”
That is what I adore about Redfin agents. They are empathetic and work hard for you and with you. Plus, the Redfin site is one of the most trusted and transparent real estate sites online – they survey every client, whether a deal closes or not, and post every review to their site, the good and the bad.
Beth from Simply Budgeted bought and sold a house in Virginia in 2006. She said she was nervous, but it all worked out.
The townhouse was all decorated for Christmas. I wasn’t sure how it would go over but I wasn’t willing to give it up. Apparently it was OK!
So go ahead and decorate!
Kiersten from Oh My Veggies just sold a house in North Carolina. She purchased a fixer upper, but was not prepared for the Christmas stress + new pregnancy stress + fixing up the new house.
For me, the holidays are a time when I want to nest and cook and invite family over, but with all this chaos, we can’t do that, so it doesn’t quite feel like Christmas. And I haven’t even started thinking about Christmas shopping – I have a feeling everyone will be getting gift cards from us this year!
It’s about the family. And the memories. Memories that are not always perfect little “packages tied up with string.” But they can still be your favorite things. Christine from Dates to Diapers is right in the thick of this right now. While her dreams of doing Christmas with her family just like she has in the past isn’t happening, she is making the best of it:
My plan is to get moving things done during the day while the kids are still in school, and do the baking, wrapping, fun shopping – holiday stuff – WITH the kids in the evenings.
No matter how you feel about buying and selling during the holidays, you need an agent that gets you and has the tools to make it 1,000% easier. Redfin has those agents and those tools. And they have even more tips and ideas to make it easier for you: Claim your home on the Redfin Home Dashboard, to find out how many people viewed and favorited your listing on Redfin, how it compares with other similar listings, and your home value estimate.
