Fill in the blank. What comes to mind? Especially now, in the 2nd week of December. Christmas concerts, shopping, school projects, bills to pay, work piling up, and family stress.
What keeps you grounded, keeps you sane?
Below are a few of my funny and honest answers. Some might make you laugh, one might make you roll your eyes – but they are real, and I rely on all of them.
It is true. I am filling up their “by 5 get one free” deal. A few times over. I don’t know what they put in the Chestnut Praline Latte, but when I hold the red cup and sip the caffeinated syrup concoction, for a moment my stress just evaporates.
It might be an addiction.
I do not read this as often as I need to. I can’t seem to wake up early enough, then as soon as I am awake it is “get the kids to school, write the post, do the social media, pick up the kids, prepare dinner, feed lunch” and my day is just zapped until nighttime.
I think I need to do nighttime devotions.
This is how my house get’s clean. Turn on my fav shows on Hulu, and clean as fast as I can during the commercials and boring parts.
Sidenote: if I pay for hulu plus, can I pay like $2 a month for commercial free option? Maybe? Pay attention Hulu, I need this.
Instagramming, tweeting and texting with my friends. When I am super stressed out and my husband is at work, I have a few friends that are just a finger tap away with a sarcastic reply to make me laugh. Above is my super gorgeous friend Emily @ColoradoMom. If you tweet at her, be prepared for Patriots fandom, fashion talk, sarcasm and Disney-love.
When TV shows and best friends don’t work, crank up the tunes! Changing the music can really change my attitude. If I need to get some frustration out, a rock song with a strong female lead (think Evanescence) is perfection. If I want to dance and release some endorphins, Spice Girls and Britney and Taylor Swift are my choice.
Speaking of which:
I love EVERY. SINGLE. SONG. on this album! I preordered it when Shake It Off was first released. I’ve had it on repeat ever since!
This has saved me so many times! Saving things to just one hard drive is so 2012. I can save photos to my iMac, and they are automatically on my iPhone! If something happens to my iMac, my files are safe. (Not to mention I back up on an external hard drive too).
As much as I adore my iPhone and cloud storage, nothing keeps me as organized as my Erin Condren life planner. Yes, I am quite the paradox, thank you for noticing.
When I write things down, I can see them in my mind. When I type something, it doesn’t work the same. My visual memory only works with pen and ink.
Plus, there is that element of artistic creativity I get with my planner. It uses my right brain.
And also? I write everything down in it. So it becomes like a time capsule of sorts. I adore it.
