If you follow our social media channels at all, you know we LOVE coffee! And so just recently I created a super easy DIY Pallet Coffee Cup Organizer. I hope you enjoy the tutorial!
William and I LOVE coffee. It’s about sharing a cup together and expressing our love for each other. We sip and share. It’s very important.
Coffee has health benefits, but it also has mood benefits, and it’s just such a special time of day – sharing a cup with each other. Will and I worked together to make a DIY Pallet coffee cup holder for our kitchen. We needed one because we started to collect coffee cups during all of our travels. Everywhere we went together, we bought a new mug.
Do you have coffee cups you want to display or organize? I hope this tutorial helps you out! It’s such a cinch.
DIY Pallet Coffee Cup Holder
I am so proud of my DIY pallet coffee cup holder! It is perfect by my coffee pot and gives me a way to show off my collection of funny coffee mugs. I love my coffee mugs. A lot.
This DIY project completely transformed my kitchen! And double bonus? It gave me a ton of storage space in my cabinets.
I hope this post helps you make your own pallet cup holder too! This project can be customized so easily! Make it smaller, paint the pallet – the options are endless.
You can use this post as inspiration and woodworking information to create anything out of wood. Sure, there are many profitable woodworking projects that you could take on. But the most important factor is choosing a project you will enjoy working on. That way, you will be more likely to stick with it and see it through to completion.
Items Required:
- A wood pallet
- Hooks
- Stencils
- Paint
- Teak Bungs also called plugs (optional)
Wood Pallet
My father in law has pallets he has collected through the years. We just brought one home for free. If you don’t know anyone that has a pallet, you can find them for free or cheap from small businesses in your area. Builders and lumber yards tend to have them in steady supply.
Hooks
We found a pack of 20 hooks for about $5 at Walmart. My coffee cup collection is quite large, so I chose smaller hooks in order to get as many on the pallet as possible. However, I didn’t realize how thick some coffee cup handles are. I ended up having to use pliers to bend the hooks so the cups could fit.
This works great for me, the hooks are holding the cups perfectly! But I’ve also seen people use larger hooks too.
Stencils & Paint
This was the fun part! The stencils are super affordable too, I bought a pack at Walmart. Tip: measure the height of the board you are painting so you buy the stencil the exact size you need.
Tools Required:
- Stud Finder
- Power Drill
- Level
- Measuring Tape/Ruler
- Hammer & Nails
Stud Finder
This pallet ends up being pretty heavy, so it must be screwed into the studs. Our stud finder wasn’t very accurate, which led to a few misplaced screws. Make sure your stud finder is working well before you go to hang it up.
Power Drill
Believe me, you do not want to screw this into the wall by hand! A powerful drill is going to be your best friend.
Measuring Tape/Ruler
This is something I did not use and I really wish I did! My cups are not spaced perfectly or evenly. I was so excited about this project that I placed the hooks in the pallet just by “eyeballing” them. Take my advice, place the first hook where you want it, make sure the cup fits. Then, use a ruler to draw a straight line across the pallet so the hooks are all even. Measure the space between each hook so they are spaced evenly.
You will appreciate this extra time.
Hammer & Nails
My husband used a hammer to take a few boards off the back of the pallet and moved them down so they were easier to reach with his power drill when he screwed it to the wall.
Optional Changes
We left the pallet natural. All I did was wash it with water. But I’ve seen some pallet coffee cup holders stained, others painted. Use your imagination to fit your decor.
Another change I’ve seen is cutting a pallet and making a smaller version. This pallet is full sized at 42 inches by 42 inches. It’s easy to cut it down and make a few holders out of one pallet.
I hope you find a pallet and make your own! If you do, tag me on Instagram or tag #Venture1105 so I can see it! And see more inspiration online.
