According to HGTV, some of the world’s most luxurious bedrooms include Abu Camp in Okavango Delta, Botswana. The exotic setup includes a high-end tent with expansive panoramic views of the Okavango Delta. Nestled in the Kalahari Desert, the tented suite comes with real wooden floors, leather furnishings, indoor and outdoor showers and, of course, views of area wildebeest, antelope and zebra strolling by.
If wildebeest just isn’t your thing, or you’re not in a place to pick up and move to a luxury tent in Botswana, you can still think luxury without going high-end desert chic. Hone in on your own signature style and create an ultra luxurious look that you’ll love saying goodnight to. Here’s how to get started.
Add indulgent layers
An indulgent room needs indulgent layers to match from textured wallpaper to shag rugs and bedding. Go for deep down comforters in muted or white tones and add vibrant, colorful throw pillows that match your favorite signature style like indigo or canary yellow. You can always swap out your pillows as your season and style preferences evolve.
There’s also a layer many people overlook when opting for luxury. Include a comfortable memory foam mattress topper outfitted with 800 thread count sheets made from two-ply fabric. The combination will make you feel like you’re sleeping in a five-star resort.
Arrange freshly cut flowers
Freshen up your room and make it look like you have your own private gardener with a vase of fresh cut flowers, bamboo or delicate succulents. Arrange your creation near your bedside to enhance the air quality of your bedroom, or just to give your bedside a pop of color. If you’re using a clear vase with flowers, add seablue marbles at the bottom to help anchor your arrangement and mimic the trend-setting style of luxury homes.
Upgrade your ceiling
What’s going on above your bedroom can make a big impact on your sense of luxury. Paint your ceiling with light-colored lacquer to add depth to your room without overwhelming. Realtor.com also recommends going a shade lighter than your walls to add even more dimension. When the paint is dry and you’re ready to admire your new look, add a hanging chandelier or fixture with soft lighting and curl up for a nap.
Reimagine your furniture
Just about every bedroom should have a nightstand or two, but they don’t have to be traditional and uninspired. Opt for a glass or mirrored nightstand, or take an antique find and layer with lacquer paint to freshen it up. Next, tackle your bedroom seating. Add a small chair or colorful ottoman that doubles as a stool for a pop of color. If your bedroom is large enough, a bolted fabric bench that opens to storage or small loveseat can give the impression your bedroom is a spectacular master suite found in luxury homes.
If you’re going to rest your head somewhere, it might as well be in the most luxurious room in your home. Start with a few small flourishes like creating a dream bed and branch out to include the indulgent touches you love like fresh flowers and antique accents. Your new oasis will become your favorite room in the house.
