There is no arguing the fact celebrities influence people in our society. You can’t turn on the TV, go on the internet or even walk in the mall without seeing celebrities in some capacity. While we know we can’t seem to get away from celebrity influence, many people might not actually know all the ways celebrities are influencing the choices of themselves and their families.
With that in mind, we thought we’d look at a couple ways that celebrities could be influencing your families in ways you may not have known.
How Celebrities Influence Families
Bring Up Important Issues Within Families
Every family deals with its own issues, and there is no way around that. However, sometimes, your children might not want to bring up their problems with their parents and would rather keep them inside or talk to their friends about them instead.
Additionally, many celebrities have gone public with various struggles in their lives. Not only does this reduce the stigma about being vulnerable and “coming clean” about things, but if your teen or child sees their favorite celebrity talking publicly about these issues, it might inspire them to do the same.
The celebrity endorsement market is a very interesting one. Sometimes, the endorsements are harmless, but other times, they are not. For example, recently, celebrities like Floyd Mayweather and Paris Hilton have landed in hot water for their paid endorsements of cryptocurrency.
If a celebrity peddles some clothing or a hair salon, that’s fine, but when they start to make inaccurate claims about monetary investments, things can get dicey.
The point is, if a product or service is endorsed by a celebrity, that doesn’t mean it is automatically better than the alternatives. Many people (especially teens, children and young adults) often struggle with this and it can lead them to make some potentially bad choices.
The Celebrity Impact on Baby Names
Yes, celebrities can even have an impact on a child’s life before they are even born. Everyone gets their inspiration for baby names from different sources, but one of the most popular is from celebrities. While some people directly take a baby name from a celebrity, others might do it without even thinking.
While this might sound like it could just be a coincidence, it is not. There is a wealth of baby name data that can show a spike in babies named something soon after a star with that same name bursts onto the scene in Hollywood.
They Can Impact Your Health
While celebrities can make us want to visit the mall to spend money, they can also make us want to visit the doctor’s office to make sure we are healthy.
Celebrities are human beings just like us, and also undergo various health issues and complications like us as well. And when they talk about these issues, people listen. If celebrities speak out about certain illness they struggle with, it can help people who suffer from something similar go and get tested or seek help. This goes for whether the issue is mental illness, heart problems, cancer or anything else.
Just the fact that more people are willing to undergo a test or visit the doctor after finding out a celebrity did the same is a good thing. While a lot of those people never get diagnosed with anything, some do, and even if only one life is saved, the celebrity has done their job and used their voice and reach in a meaningful way.
