I have only had a few minor issues with the Whirlpool Duet and I am so excited to say I have discovered the solution to them! In the month and a half that I have had this set, my laundry is honestly more manageable. My clothes don’t smell like mildew anymore and my hampers are staying emptier!

Note, I said emptier. Not empty. I am not superwoman.

The Whirlpool Duet has a ton of specialty cycles and I have only used maybe 1/4 of them. What helps me the most with my laundry is the easy dispense, huge load capacity, and the cute little chimes. The mildew problem was because my old washer did not have an alarm, so I didn’t recognize when it was completed. This meant I left clothes in there far longer than I should have. Now with the cute little ding ding ding DINGS of the alarm I can switch the clothes immediately.

My only issue really was the detergent dispenser for powdered detergent. I was having issues with the machine leaving behind 3/4 of the detergent. This happened with the Tide washing machine cleaner too. After troubleshooting with the Whirlpool team we came to the conclusion I need to wash in cool water since I have hard well water. Other Duet owners suggested I put the powdered detergent directly in the drum with my clothes.

Would you like to meet my set? Here is a little video I made where I take you through all the settings and show you inside my drawers! (oh la la!)

It used to take 2 cycles in my old dryer to completely dry my cloth diapers. In fact, my cloth diaper laundry became the bottlekneck of laundry day. Now my Duet spins my diapers so fast in the washing machine it takes only one 1-hour cycle to completely dry them.

Washing my cloth diapers is super easy with my Duet. At first I was kinda scared about using an HE machine. I’ve heard that HE front loaders cause ammonia stink in cloth diapers because they don’t use enough water, thus not cleaning the diapers completely.

First, I created my own cycle. This is my favorite feature by far!

I just went through and set it to:

*Hard Water *High Soil level

*Hot Temp *Extra Rinse

*High spin

All of this makes the cycle last 2 hours, but my diapers are washed thoroughly and I don’t have to set it for an extra rinse manually! Plus, with the high spin at the end it takes less time to dry them.

My only confusion at this point is the detergent dispenser. I can’t use the Precision Dispense because that puts too much detergent on my diapers (not to mention I don’t like using liquid detergent on my diapers). But when I put powder in the tray where it says, “Put powder detergent here,” sometimes the cycle will end and there will still be detergent in the tray. This does not happen every time, so I don’t know why it happens at all. I’ll keep you posted if I figure out why it does this. I could easily remedy this by just putting the detergent in the drum with my diapers, but why would they say “put powder detergent here” if it doesn’t use it all? (And I am only using 2 T of detergent too, not overfilling it by any means)

Otherwise, my diapers are super clean! I have had this set for a mont now without any stink. I am enjoying them!

Do you have this problem too?

This is my sock tub. All the socks that have lost their mate find their way into this place of limbo. Sometimes, if they are lucky, a match is made and they are wisked to the safety of the sock drawer.

But if they are unlucky, if karma is frowning upon them, they will lie here for an eternity.

Well, it seems like that long.

They stay in this tub until a craft or silly dress up occasion arises. I have even been known to empty the entire contents of the tub into the trash. Of course, two weeks after such a purge I find one of their mates.

I am searching for ways to keep these solo socks from appearing. How do I keep matches together? And does the dryer really eat socks? Ok, I know it doesn’t litterally swallow them, but there has to be an explanation for this. Josh likes to tell me about the grimlins that sneak into the house when everyone is (finally!) asleep. They steal a couple socks here and there and perhaps a phone charger, set of keys and a shoe or two (but never a complete pair!). These grimlins thrive on my unhappiness. It gives them strength and energy, like Pepsi does for me.

That’s a bit far fetched for me. I just want my socks back!

What do you do with your solo socks? I need ideas!
