One of the best investments I have made in my blog as my career was to purchase professional business cards.  As I travel to different blogging events, I meet people on the plane that ask me where I am going. When I say, “to a blog event,” more questions follow. Having business cards on hand that I can whip out and hand them makes it so much easier to explain. Not to mention it is a really fab way to advertise.

I have used UPrinting before – I won business cards in another giveaway – so I can tell you exactly what I think about them. They rock. I chose to get the ones that are glossy on both sides. On hindsight I think I should have only ordered one side glossy so that people can write on the other side.

Besides that minor mistake on my part (which wasn’t really all that bad. My cards are so pretty!) I really was impressed with the cards. UPrinting was fast and there was not a single mistake. I also ordered my cards with rounded corners – I think that helps them stand out just a smidge.

UPrinting also makes a slew of other printing products.  Wouldn’t it be fun to make some bookmarks with your blog logo and hand them out to friends at blog conferences? I can think of a few fun ways to use stickers with my logo too….

There is no doubt about it – my family consumes a crazy amount of dairy every week. I make healthy choices by getting the low-fat options because there are just so many dairy products my kids ask for.

Lizzie’s favorite is cottage cheese. No joke – one time she polished off half a container. David can eat his weight in yogurt. And Lucy’s favorite is string cheese.

Back before Lizzie was eating meat (she hated the texture and gagged), I turned to cheese and dairy to help her get the protein her growing body needed.  I think that is when our family started the “dairy addiction.” Now we eat dairy at every meal – cheese in our scrambled eggs, milk in our oatmeal, cheese sauce on the veggies and sour cream in our chili.

What I didn’t know was exactly how  healthy that protein is for my kids and their growing bodies.  The Midwest Dairy Council states that cheese can be substituted ounce for ounce for meat. (Which is exactly what I did when Lizzie didn’t like to eat meat).

Another fun fact:

Some types of cheese are excellent sources of calcium, delivering 27% of the mineral in the US food supply.4 One and a half ounces of some natural cheese contains approximately 300 mg of calcium, the equivalent of 1 cup of milk.

My favorite way to live like the Lorax – to care for the earth and leave it better than I found it – is to plant and garden. This is such an easy way to share with my kids and excite them about the earth too.

We dig in the dirt. We plant seeds. We water them and get excited as we see little buds rise out of the ground.

And then, if all went right and we crossed our fingers and toes, we get to eat a ton of fresh produce at the end of the season!

Last year, we didn’t grow as much variety as we hoped. The weather was tough – too hot and dry. But we hope for better weather this year.

Growing your own food is a wonderfully green thing to do! It:

• teaches you to respect the earth
• cuts back on the amount of processed foods you eat
• is healthier for your body
• feeds wild animals that live around your house
