Often he will be forced to work excruciatingly long hours – from 7am-10pm. It is during these periods of overwork that I too become exhausted, frustrated and overwhelmed.

I honestly don’t know how military wives keep it all together during long deployments!

I start to wish that Josh could come home at 6pm every single day. The children miss him and I yearn for time alone. Then we we finally do have a minute to talk, (you know, right before his eyes close at night) I start wishing he was home so much more!

Over the 4th of July weekend he was home, for 3 straight days. We really enjoyed the family time and it was so much fun having him here. But by Monday evening he found the television set. Now for as hard as this man works, he deserves some time off. But after the 3rd straight episode of Psych I was not so psyched about his relaxation techniques. As I picked up the floor and put away the dishes, I started to actually wish he was back at work!

Then when he is at work I want him home!
I’m not hard to please, am I?
That got me thinking: I prefer to grumble through the long days of Josh being at work to feeling frustrated with Josh not doing enough around the house when he is home. When I first started dating him I knew he was a very dedicated and hard working man. In fact, the only reason we met was because while I was working 6pm-12am at my Christian radio station he was working till midnight at his brother’s cabinet shop, listening to me! His hard work ethic is what attracted me to him in the first place. I was certain he would break his back working for us before we ever starved. So I married him.

There are other men – just as hard working – who are blessed with jobs that allow them to be home for dinner every single night. God chose to bless me with Josh whose job doesn’t always allow him that courtesy. I am aware that there are women out there (is one of them you?) that would much rather have their husbands home and deal with nagging them to help with the kids or clean than ever have to spend long days and long nights with the children. Not me! I believe that Josh has working in his blood, he has to do all he possibly can. My heart swells with pride when I walk around with him leading my family.
